Level 101 – 7:30pm
The 101 class covers the basic patterns and requires no prior knowledge of WCS! This class is a three-week series that you are recommended to take twice. Once to learn the material, and once to gain additional muscle memory plus practice the techniques and rhythms.
All-levels welcome, no partner or experience is necessary.
> Move up to 201
Our learning recommendation is to take the 101 Class for 3–6 weeks.
Level 201 – 6:30pm
Level up your west coast swing skills while meeting other people in the community! Now that you know the basics from 101, come to the 201 class to expand your dance toolkit with your peers and learn the concepts that make WCS fun and easy. We’ll cover ways to adapt and succeed with different partners, technique to smoothly add variations to the basic patterns, and how to get more creative with the music.
Prerequisite: You should be comfortable dancing the basic patterns taught in our 101 class (left side pass, right side pass, sugar push/tuck, whip). You can count west coast swing music and start on time, understand and can demonstrate the connection within west coast swing at an introductory level, and make basic adaptations for your partners movements.
> Move up to 301
Our learning recommendation is to take the 201 Class for 24-weeks (6 months), or have covered all of the content needed to advance to 301.
Level 301 – 7:30pm
For dancers who seek to refine their west coast swing, this class offers studies in movement quality, partnering and creativity. Students will be encouraged to elevate their awareness of their bodies and connection, and explore their individual preferences for how to approach the dance. The class introduces drills and technically difficult patterns as tools to practice these concepts and help us dive deeper into what makes a proficient west coast swing dancer.
Prerequisite: Students wishing to join the 301 Level should be able demonstrate the following skills:
• Timing – Able to stay consistently on time with the music.
• Weight Transfer – Comfortable and controlled weight shifts throughout movement.
• Frame – Maintain a consistent, communicative frame during all patterns.
• Pattern Execution – Confidently lead or follow all basic patterns. Execute patterns with extensions and single variations with precision and comfort.
• Musicality – Able to count music. Show basic musical interpretation in dancing.
• Footwork & Rhythm – Comfortable using fundamental rhythm and footwork variations.
